July 20, 2024, THIMPHU:

Around 25 women journalists from various media outlets and freelancers have registered with the Journalists’ Association of Bhutan (JAB) for a three-day workshop from July 22-24, 2024, in Paro.

Titled “EmpowerHer: Amplifying the Voice of Women Journalists,” the workshop will be conducted by two seasoned journalists with over two decades of experience in print media. The program aims to empower women journalists, from young to mid-career, by providing comprehensive training in multimedia storytelling, investigative reporting, and digital media tools along with mentorship and networking opportunities.

The organizer stated that this training aims to foster gender equality and inclusivity in journalism, amplifying women’s voices and promoting their professional growth. The training will focus on multimedia storytelling, where participants will develop skills in crafting compelling stories that integrate audio, video, text, and visuals across various platforms. They will also master digital tools for research, data analysis, fact-checking, and content creation.

The three-day programme will also cover investigative reporting, teaching advanced techniques for uncovering stories, conducting in-depth interviews, and ethically verifying information. Additionally, the resource persons will emphasize the journalism code of conduct and ethics to build a strong foundation in ethical principles, ensuring accuracy, fairness, and accountability in reporting.

According to the organizers, EmpowerHer strives to build a vibrant community of women journalists at the forefront of driving positive change, shaping public discourse with fresh perspectives and amplified voices. “This training is expected to inspire and empower others in the media industry,” a JAB official said. The training is funded by the Embassy of Switzerland to India and Bhutan.
