Dear Media Colleagues,
In these challenging times, we find ourselves amid a global trade war that has far-reaching consequences for nations and economies, including our own. Bhutan, a small but vibrant nation, grapples with unique challenges, particularly within the realm of media. Over the past two weeks, we have witnessed a troubling trend—the emergence of a blame game that threatens to undermine the very foundation of our industry.
The core of our profession is built on the values of integrity, respect, and collaboration. Media plays a crucial role in shaping public discourse, and we must hold ourselves to the highest standards in our reporting and interactions with one another. Instead of engaging in conflicts, we should foster an environment that encourages constructive dialogue and mutual support.
It is important to remember that our primary goal is to serve our communities by informing and educating the public. In a small and interconnected society like Bhutan, the impact of our words and actions is magnified. The division we see now not only harms our industry but also undermines the trust the public places in us as media professionals.
As members of the Journalists’ Association of Bhutan (JAB), I urge each of you to reflect on our purpose. We are not just representatives of our respective media outlets; we are part of a larger family with a shared commitment to fostering a robust media landscape. Let us remember our common goals: to inform, educate, and serve our Tsa-Wa-Sum. Our collective strength lies in our ability to support one another rather than engage in criticism and defamation.
Let us step back and consider our shared mission. Instead of pointing fingers and airing grievances, let us come together as a united front. We have the opportunity to collaborate, learn from one another, and grow as a collective. Building a strong media industry is not a competition; it is a shared journey that requires our combined efforts and vision. Engaging in respectful conversations that promote understanding will help us find solutions that uplift each other.
I implore each of you to join me in halting the cycle of negativity. Instead of engaging in a blame game, let us foster a spirit of cooperation and understanding. Together, we can create an environment where ideas flourish, innovation thrives, and every member of the media contributes to a harmonious and dynamic society.
Now is the time for unity. Let us come together as one family to build a strong media industry that upholds the values of professionalism and integrity. In doing so, we not only enhance our profession but also play a vital role in shaping the future of our beloved Bhutan.
With hope for a peaceful and collaborative future.
